AVAILABLE NOW - Dell Poweredge servers with AMD Epyc Gen2

Dell announced five new PowerEdge servers that all leverage the new AMD EPYC 7002 processors, including the Dell EMC PowerEdge R6515 and R7515 servers which are available worldwide now.

The new PowerEdge Servers announced will give users new levels of performance with the best total cost of ownership. Most customers are still interested in TCO and AMD performance proposal per CPU socket is very appealing.

Cloud, hosting and HPC have traditionally been AMD sweetspots and Gen2 is expanding competitive advantage to all workloads that can be defined as "Software Defined" - virtualization, software defined storage and hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), machine learning, data analytics and VDI. 

Dell also says that the new servers showed up to a 51% increase in input/output per second (IOPS) when used in Dell EMC vSAN Ready Node deployments compared to their previous generation of PowerEdge servers.

All of the new Dell EMC PowerEdge servers also have support for PCIe 4.0 devices. PCIe 4.0 support not only future proofs the new servers for the next several years at least; it is also probably a major source of the performance improvements Dell is claiming for their new servers. Additionally, Dell says that the new motherboards in the servers offer better cooling than the previous generation.

What AMD Epyc Gen2 brings on the table:

  • Industry first 7nm processor on x86. 
  • Doubled core count to 68 and 128 simultanous threads per socket.
  • extended memory capacity to 4TB per socket.
  • first time in server market using PCIx4, which is especially good at managing high speed like ethernet, Infiniband, NVMe or GPU for VDI purposes.

SECURITY: Dedicated integrated security processor for secure boot, encrypted memory, encrypted virtualization.
